London Fashion Week is an unforgettable experience. There are so many things to see and do. When you first arrive everything feels like a dream. People are bustling around everywhere- street style photographers and fashion savvy bloggers in eye-catching outfits await you from the front gate onwards. Don't be surprised if a photographer wants to take a picture of you- it means your outfit inspires them or intrigues them. You'll also see some press hanging around outside in hopes of catching a glimpse of someone famous. For example, last season I saw Oliver Proudlock and Sophie from Made In Chelsea. Tanya Burr and I were also at the same fashion show but unfortunately I didn't get to see her. Don't get your hopes up on seeing huge celebrities, however. You're very lucky if you get the chance to see someone super famous when your around.
The building itself can be very confusing and the amount of times I got myself lost is uncountable. You can pick up a map and details book from the front desk but that didn't really help me either. I'm an embarrassment when it comes to reading maps and finding my way around places. The best thing to do is take note of how you first got in, what entrance you used and which showrooms you were near. In the end I knew how to find the lounge I needed but it did take a lot of asking random people and getting lost.
Make sure your electronics are fully charged before you leave as finding a plug socket is an absolute nightmare. Everyone always rushes towards the lounge as quickly as possible due to limited seats and plug sockets. Sitting in a cold hallway on the floor while trying to charge a crappy BlackBerry was not ideal for me so don't try that either. I would also recommend you to bring your own drink as I wasn't a fan of their strangely flavoured 'beauty' drinks and coconut water. Make sure to put a snack or two in your bag as well- you hardly get the time to buy something and sit down!
If you're running a tad late to the show don't panic! The queues take ages to get into the venue so it gives you a bit of time to hurry up. That doesn't mean you can take your time though. If anything, I recommend you to get there pretty early so you can get to the front of the show more easily and avoid the annoying queues. Be prepared for some manic crowds as well- some people can be quite careless so don't let anyone sneak in front of you.
Now you have more of an idea of what London Fashion Week is like, don't let it intimidate you. It's natural to be daunted by it and a bit weary of the big crowds of highly dressed people. But remember, you don't need to look like everyone else or follow everyone else's fashion sense. Fashion is all about being yourself and understanding your own style. London Fashion Week helps bloggers embrace that and gives them a chance to experiment with their style.
If you're going to LC:M or LFW this season then just have as much fun as possible. Invites are sent out pretty late so don't panic if you haven't received yours yet. Make sure you keep them safely tucked into your bag as well along with essentials such as:
Water, mobile, camera, chargers, notepad and pen, snacks, money and anything else you carry in your bag.
London Fashion Week can be daunting, confusing, manic and tiring; yet it's the best and biggest event in fashion and really shows how the world of fashion works. If you ever get the chance to go then take it- it can really open up new opportunities. If you need help or have any questions then drop them in the comments sections below and I'll be happy to answer them.
Until next time!
